A Guide that actually works.

I bought this book because I was looking to actually make some money online. All of these methods are current and can be applied by anyone who can follow directions. I was only making a couple of dollars a day, but when I used a few of the methods explained in this book I grew to $20 a day. I only have time to do internet marketing part-time. Thanks to Chad and Black Hat Dream I can make some extra money on the side. Great book at a cheap price. You can easily make up the price you pay for it in a day. Good Stuff! Great Buy!!

This is a great book. I bought this book, because I was looking for a way to make more money on the side. It definitely did the job. The information is very informative and easy to understand. There are many unique ways to make money that I had no idea even existed until buying this book. I am currently making anywhere between $15 and $20 a day. Thank you Chad!

Good Practice for the Essays

I found this book useful for practicing the essay portion of the California exam. Generally, it gives you a guide for writing about particular subject areas, followed by several practice essays. There is a guide for judging your score on each essay and a grid for keeping track of your overall scores. The author also provides other general guidelines for "successful" essay writing. It was helpful, for the most part. The essay answers were better than others that I've used; more realistic. A note: some subject areas, perhaps by their nature, were not quite as clear as others. I would highly recommend this book for the self-studier or for those seeking more essay practice (of which you can never have too much). My one criticism is the pathetic number of typographical errors and mistakes in the book. Many are just annoying, but some of them interfere with the clarity and meaning of the text. The editor must have dropped the ball on this. Nevertheless, it's a good book for practice.

Really helped for California Bar Essays

Some of my friends went to the first Bar/Bri essay lecture and it seemed to just click. I got my first graded essay back, with a respectable score, but then again, it was torts. I really struggled with contracts. Another friend used this book (this book is an abbreviated and newer version than the older 2 volume books which I used for the 2010 July bar exam), and she said her bar/bri essay graders really seemed to notice the difference. I started using this book the second week of essay practices. My score immediately was better with the graders, but even better, I was much more confident with the essay portion of the California Bar. Towards the end of Bar/Bri I also used the Bar Exam Survival Kit and the flashcards. I think this is a great way to supplement Bar/Bri or to study if you are a more visual learner. By the time the actual exam rolled around, I felt really ready for whatever essay was thrown my way. I think that is the most valuable part of this series, building your confidence and a strategy so that no matter what they throw at you, you know what to do. Because this book helps you plan for it and practice for it. I would definitely recommend these books to anyone taking the California Bar exam!

Be not under bondage

If you've had a Christian marriage that sadly ended in some churches you are looked down upon as contaminated, a failure, not worthy to serve. Dr. Ruckman will punch holes in all these fallacies. This is essential reading for anyone who wants the Biblical Truth, that marriage is a physical relationship, not a set of vows, not a paper from the state, not a ceremony. It's when "flesh joins flesh". If flesh leaves flesh in an affair than the person who was abandoned is no longer under bondage but is free to remarry, but only in the Lord (another saved person). If flesh deserts flesh, that is another reason for divorce. Marriage is not a "sacrament", as the Roman Catholic Papacy teaches. The word "sacrament" is not even a Bible word, nor a Bible doctrine. If you are not Roman Catholic why do you buy into their false doctrines?

Do not let anyone "lord it over God's heritage". The Bible is the most radical book ever written. Challenge your old misconceptions about marriage, divorce, and remarriage and read this booklet by Dr. Ruckman, study it, and buy extra copies to give to other Christian friends who are being told they should feel guilty, ashamed, etc. just because one partner thinks they want something else out of life besides you.

About the Author

Carla Schroder is a self-taught Linux and Windows sysadmin who laid hands on her first computer around her 37th birthday. Her first PC was a Macintosh LC II. Next came an IBM clone--a 386SX running MS-DOS 5 and Windows 3.1 with a 14-inch color display--which was adequate for many pleasant hours of Doom play. Then around 1997 she discovered Red Hat 5.0 and had a whole new world to explore.

Somewhere along the way she found herself doing freelance consulting for small businesses and home users, supporting both Linux and Windows users and integrating Linux and Windows on the LAN, primarily Linux servers and Windows clients. She is the author of the Linux Cookbook for O'Reilly, and writes Linux how-tos for several computer publications.

Great book for command-line administration

First off, this book focuses on RPM-based and Debian-based distributions. This doesnt, by any means, make it useless for those that don't, but some of the "recipes" are specific to either of these.

I am not even sure where to begin with my praise of this book, it's got over a dozen sticky notes marking key sections that I find useful. I guess I can start by saying that the author is deeply involved with doing system administration via the command line, which is fantastic news for me! There are plenty of decent GUI tools out there, but when x dies and you're stuck at a command line, using them isn't an option. I feel that if you don't have the knowledge to fix things yourself, at least have a book by your side that offers you some tips, and that is what this book is for. And some people just prefer doing administration via the command line all the time, myself included.

The time I most often pull out this book, however, is not when I run into a problem, but when I'm setting up a new system. I don't reinstall often, but when I do there are little things that I often forget how to do, since I do them so infrequently. Things like setting up ssh keys, setting up users and groups, setting up NTP, setting up new fstab.

I also found this book useful when I wanted a quick and clean explaination of different filesystems and more information about command line options for CD burning. Also I got some good ideas for backups and local file transfer methods from the chapter on Backup and Recover.

Best of all, this book contains a great chapter on kernels. So many books and online how-tos I've seen give you the steps of compiling a kernel, but don't explain what is going on. This always left me feeling like I had no clue what I was doing, and if there was an error I'd have no idea where I'd begin fixing it, since I didn't really know what "make mrproper," for instance, means (side note, she even quickly explains "according to Linux lore" the reasoning behind the name Mr. Proper, a delightful bit of trivia). Now that I've read this chapter on kernels I'm much more comfortable recompiling and customizing my own. She also talks about patching a kernel, which is something I had trouble with for a while, since so much documentation I found and people I asked said "just use patch" which meant nothing to me.

An excellent book for the linux user who wants to move away from the GUI and learn more about core, command-line administration. I love it.

Numerous tips on direct command line usage

Perhaps the most surprising thing about this book is that it wasn't published prior to December 2004. Linux has been popular enough in recent years that the book would have been useful earlier. But given that it has just appeared, Schroder has a very up to date coverage of linux tips.

Take for example the chapter on CD and DVD recording or copying. All sorts of guidance on using DVDs for data or audio. Linux has powerful but obscure commands for these tasks. But they are run at the command line. Often with many input arguments. Not the easiest of things for someone to remember. Linux lacks a nice UI to take some of this burden off you.

Some of you should check out the chapter on Knoppix. There is an allure about making a bootable version of linux on a CD or DVD that you can then run on an arbitrary Intel or AMD machine.

The chapter on managing spam has a very limited discussion on using a blacklist. It talks about how it's used to block incoming messages from addresses on the list. No mention about using the list against domains from hyperlinks in the message body.

The standard "Cookbook" format has a problem (such as "Installing YUM"), a solution, a discussion of the problem and solution, as well as additional reference material (either other cookbook items or external sources). The focus is less on theory and more on practicality. The author wants to help you learn to do something without necessarily understanding every little nuance or subtle effect. Because one of the primary target audiences is Linux administrators, there's a strong emphasis on command line techniques. For instance, there's a "recipe" for password-protecting LILO. All the things you do involve entering command line statements at prompts.

This wouldn't be the type of book you'd buy if you're looking for things you can do from the KDE or GNOME desktop environment. You'd walk away with very little, if any, value. But if you're an administrator who wants to tap into the full power of the command line server interface, this will be an interesting book for you...

Caroline Bowsher is the Programme Director of the plant science and biology courses at the University of Manchester, UK.

Martin Steer is Professor of Botany and Director of the Electron Microscopy Laboratory at University College Dublin, Eire.

Alyson Tobin is Dean of Science at the Centre for Evolution, Genes & Genomics at the University of St. Andrews, Scotland.

Decent Textbook

The book arrived rather quickly. It seems to be a pretty good textbook but not too many images to see examples from. I also feel that it could go into a little bit more detail on certain concepts.
