Saved my sanity.

This is a tiny book. You can read it in about an hour. It is about mineral salts and how our body needs them. Different ones for different things the body needs. it was a life saver for me. No doctor could help me with medicine. I was hearing music and words--spelling them over and over again. I felt I was about to go crazy. I started taking the Hyland Bioplasma mineral salts and within 3 days the music and the words were gone. I have been taking the mineral salts about a year . This little book written along time ago helped me so very much and I highly recommend it.

I use this book as a reference for learning about cell salts and for ideas on choosing a remedy for a particular pathology.

I appreciate reading original works of the early biochemists- and this book is full of the flavor of those beginnings. Carey left us with his strong opinions regarding the direction medicine was taking in the early 1900's. In this book and other early biochemic texts I have found the origin of many ideas that seemed to be cutting edge "New Age" ideas that were popularized in the 1990's.

Personally, I feel that these biochemists were ahead of their times. Their ideas about using cell salts are grounded in science. I have appreciated finding ways to ground ideas that seem foreign to western medicine in original texts such as this one.

If you are a student of biochemic tissue/cell salts, I strongly recommend it as a useful reference. If you are looking for an easily accessible general reference, I would not recommend it.

This is an exact copy o the old addition . Mine is yellow with age.. So happy to find this one.. Cell salts are trace elements that our body cannot function without.. They are the only stable part of our body .. so simple but in trace amounts can reverse most any ailment

Could you imagine being kidnaped? My guess is no. In this book you will find out what it feels like.

Jainie is just a normal girl living in a normal neighborhood just like you and me. Until one day she finds out she has been kidnapped. She can't believe it. With her neighbor Reves together they drive to her real mom's house, and she can't believe what she sees. Will she reunite with her real mom? You will have to read to find out.

I think this is a great book because, well something about an intense mystery is just good. There are some intense moments and some mysterious moments. This book will make you not want to put it down until you are done. All the happy moments in this book make it a really good book. With happy ,sad and love moments I really like it except for the love parts.

This is a great book because it includes happy, sad and love moments and plenty of mysterious and action parts, and it's just plan good. Nice job Caroline B. Cooney.

Great for basics, too general for experienced marketers

I should preface this review by saying that I am probably not the typical reader the author had in mind when writing this book. As a marketing consultant, I was recently was engaged to develop retail feasibility study and project plan for an Internet retailer planning their first bricks and mortar store. Although I have retail marketing experience, I bought this book to make sure that I had all bases covered and to get some fresh ideas on visual merchandising, retail POS systems and operations for small retailers.
This book is a great tool for a would-be entrepreneur thinking about starting their first retail business. It covers all the basics needed to plan, set up and manage a retail business, from writing the business plan to making the business a reality. The author makes good use of case studies which illustrate some of the retail successes and failures that he has observed. Another feature I found particularly useful are the tips on all aspects of retailing that could take years of trial and error to learn on your own. Last but not least the CD contains a wealth of useful forms and checklists.
Some areas that I would like to see developed in future editions are:
* Visual merchandising and store layout - more on principles and examples of floor plans
* Software suggestions - small business retail POS systems, planogram and merchandising design software
* Sample budgets and project plans
* Links to online sources of information - where to find designers, software, sales staff etc
To summarize, an excellent book on retail basics and if Rick Segel writes an "Advanced Retailing for Dummies" book, I will be the first customer.

Everything You Need to Know About Retail Businesses

Hi, Amazon.com shoppers. I would like to say a few words about Retail Business Kit For Dummies. I work in the retail industry, and I was drawn to this book because I heard Rick Segel speak several years ago. He was so funny and inspirational, and I really enjoyed his presentation, unlike some speeches I've heard that put me to sleep. So, I was curious about this book. Let me say that I was not disappointed. I felt that Rick's personality really came across, which made the material very fun to read. (IMHO, it doesn't matter how valuable the information is if it's written in a dry and boring style.) I think the little anecdotes and true stories that he scatters throughout are a great way to illustrate the points he makes. For example, I really liked a story he told about a jewelry store owner who sent out a very elaborate (read, expensive!) invitation to a private sale to his best 78 customers. Almost 50 of them came to the event and spent money, results that totally blew away the response he had gotten to the thousands of cheap postcards he sent out in past promotions. The moral? It pays to focus on your very best customers, even if you have to spend a little more.
Basically, I learned a lot of tips and tricks of the trade that I can share with my colleagues. What a great book! To anyone who's reading this review, check it out! It gives you a ton of great insights you'll appreciate.

What can I say about this book?
I bought it because I'm thinking about opening my own little gift shop. It's been a dream of mine for a long time, but I've never known where to begin. You know, it's not all fun and games. With all the stuff you have to learn about taxes and legalities, it can be downright intimidating.
After reading Retail Business Kit For Dummies I understand a lot more about what it's like to operate a store. It covers everything. I don't feel so intimidated now!

Based on detailed fieldwork in Malagasy villages and a thorough archival investigation, Isle of Fire offers a detailed analysis of why Madagascar has always been aflame, why it always will be aflame, and ultimately, as Christian Kull argues, why it should remain aflame.

A solid study of fire

This book is an excellent, thorough study of the role of fire in Madagascar. People in Madagascar light fires to clear forest and pasture. This habit has been widely denounced in official and popular sources. Many writers believe, mistakenly, that Madagascar was covered with lush forests until people got there and started burning. Yet, Madagascar is mostly a dry tropical environment, with frequent lightning storms. The existence of fire-adapted endemic plants and vegetation types confirms what common sense would lead us to expect: fire has always been there. On the other hand, much superb forest, especially in the eastern and central highlands of the country, has been converted to waste by burning in recent decades or centuries.

Christian Kull discusses this complex picture--good fire, bad fire, complex fire. He shows that the inflated rhetoric about fire's awful effects stems from the needs of national and colonial regimes to maintain control as much as from the actual needs of fire management. He provides a number of excellent case studies of local communities that use fire in a variety of ways--sometimes for good, sometimes for ill, in terms of overall welfare and environmental management. He provides really excellent suggestions at the end on what should be done--I hope the NGO's and Madagascar government are reading this book.

One problem that might deserve more attention is the case of introduced plants. Madagascar was inflicted by the French colonial regime with eucalyptus, pine, and acacia--nonnative plants that burn explosively. (Native forests do not burn so explosively, so far as I have observed.) They have created an unnatural and terribly fire-prone environment in many areas. They are currently managed (illegally!) by local burning during times that are wet enough to prevent runaway fires.

So, why not five stars? First is that Kull gets carried away at times, and indulges in rhetoric that is a bit too "inflammatory" (the word is irresistable). The government and NGO workers are really not just out to push people around; there is a real point here. Burning is too little controlled and too badly managed. The leaders are clearly motivated by a desire for control, but they have a real point, too. Simplistic bash-the-leaders rhetoric sits poorly with Kull's otherwise thoughtful and nuanced study. Second, Kull might have checked more on other areas of the world--those in which indigenous burning is much better controlled and managed than it is in Madagascar (e.g. the Maya lowlands of Mexico), and those in which it is as badly managed, with devastating results (parts of south China). Third, Kull does not say enough about the biodiversity problem, which is getting worse by the day. Madagascar is home to an incredible endemic biota, which must be preserved for the benefit of humanity. Unfortunately, the costs of preserving this biota are currently being paid by the desperately poor Malagasy people, while the benefits go to humanity as a whole--especially to well-off tourists and scientists. Fire prevention to save endemic species is desperately needed, but somebody will have to figure out how to compensate local people more fairly. Kull's advice on overall fire management is so good that he might well turn his efforts to this problem. As I explained to some students in the Madagascar bush: It's not about lemurs vs. people, it's about lemurs and people vs. no lemurs and no people.

Fire management is a part of the wider issue of environmental control, an issue far too important to be left to government agents or local people or anyone else. We all have to work on it; all of us, lemurs included, are in this together.

With this companion volume to his TV series of the same title, Wolf ( What's Cookingsic ) contributes a collection of recipes, amusing anecdotes and irreverent (and sometimes irrelevant) food facts and folklore. However, this is a confusing and confounding volume--one that might have made a very up-to-date cooking primer if only Wolf had included more instructions in it. A recipe for pizza with artichokes, mushrooms, eggplant and leeks, for example, while promising, is accompanied by a vignette on the history of artichokes--yet no directions for preparing fresh ones. Instead, Wolf bounds from coast to coast, from chic restaurant to chic spa to chic celebrity haunt: geographically, from New York City to L.A. and San Francisco to Paris and Rome via British Columbia and Cincinnati. While some fare is certainly appealing (grilled fish, tomato garlic tartlets, Flora Danica blue cheese dressing), the book will frustrate readers who wish for a straightforward definition of what the author means by "eating well."

Timed to accompany his new PBS show of the same name, this latest grab bag from TV-chef Wolf (What's Cooking, 1989) starts off in a typically random manner with an unprepossessing Senate bean soup (already represented in who knows how many cookbooks) and then another soup dish composed of fried catfish, bread-and-catfish dumplings, and vegetable matchsticks that comes from a Salzburg hotel whose chef claims it was Mozart's favorite. To this second recipe are attached a boxed paragraph on Salzburg's outdoor food market and another two-paragraph box of Mozart trivia. Many of the other recipes--from a Club Med sweet-and-sour pork to a German pur‚ed mixed-fruit dessert--come from other restaurants both famous and far-flung; and the boxed notes scattered among them--on the soil of Idaho, apropos the potato; on the making of Pecorino Romano cheese--are even more haphazard than is customary. There's one on the turkey that manages to be both stale and inane. An excellent guide to truly understanding the numbers

As someone who works in investment banking, I can say this book is applicable to much more than just due diligence. It can help an analyst through most financial analysis situations(assuming the user knows the basics of how to use and analyze financial statements). What's best about the book is that it goes beyond the theory and academic stuff and gets down to real "how-to's" and "why's". He goes through every account that would appear on the three major financial statements and explains what to look for in them, how to find the answer if it's not readily apparent, what questions to ask and why the questions are important. He also thoroughly examines off-balance sheet, off-income statement and qualitative items that are essential to analysis. Beware, there are no numbers or examples to work through in this book. This book is quite literally one man's experience and intuition put into written form. If you understand that financial analysis is not as cut-and-dry as looking at well-prepared, fully forthcoming financial statements with all the info you need already given, then this book is just what you are looking for. It helps you get the right numbers to which you can apply meaningful financial analysis.

As business people we tend to specialize in areas of a company's existence. We also know however, that a successful business is an integrated whole which must be studied considering all aspects simultaneously to have a complete picture. Although probably not the stated purpose of the book, the result is a re-examination of all the important aspects of a business, which should help broaden our perspective as we deal with our business and investment.

The Bronco’s Boys series wraps up as soon as all of the men have found partners who deserve them. By the Round and Round book only Kevin still is single with no prospects. Well, that’s not quite true. He and Ken were almost a couple but that just didn’t work out.
When Kevin’s life and all of his property are threatened by a serial arsonist a rough, tell it like it is firefighter comes to Kevin’s rescue. Angus, or “MacDreamy Hotness” as Kevin comes to think about him, is the right match for Kevin. In fact, if you read Andrew Grey’s blog you will see there are more plans for Angus.
Neither man seems to understand the subtleties of flirting and dating. Therefore they misfire more than once. However, with the threats to Kevin’s life Angus isn’t willing to stand aside and let nature take its course. The arsonist and the fires, fatal to one important character, are the source of the angst in this book and it’s enough to glue you to the book until you finish it.
Bronco’s Boys is a series with more than a little drama, which sets it apart from some of Mr. Grey’s other books. I’ve loved following the adventures and misadventures of all of the men, who are close friends and as I always do with Mr. Grey’s series, I hate to see this one end. It ends on a high note with just the right HEAs for everyone, so I can put it aside to be read again another time.
I recommend this book for anyone who has read the rest of the series. It can comfortably be read as a stand alone but I think you will be drawn into their world and want to read the other books, too. And, if you drool over hot (in every sense of the word) firefighters, this is the book for you.

What Comes Around...

What a wonderful way to end a series. Three mid-20s gay men who are best of friends (Zach, Jeremy, Tristan) find love with three older hunks (Bull, Spook, Harry), with the key venue being Bronco's, a gay bar in central Pennsylvania where the young men dance and the older guys own, or hide out in.

In this book Angus, a hot mid-30s fireman originally from Scotland, and Kevin, the kind of cute and very geeky young one who has yet to find his love, meet in tragic circumstances and proceed to experience more tragedy, angst, love, lust and doubt as the plot unwinds.

This is the kind of stuff Andrew Grey excels at and in this one he really gets somewhat gruesome with all the fire activity, but it's key to everything. The romance is very rocky indeed, there are a couple of other (unrequited gay) characters who are perfectly set up to start a new series, and there is a general good feeling at the end.

My only complaint would be a spoiler, so I won't mention it because it's not as important to the book as are the implications of the cover. Woof!

Love this author

I love this series. I am sad to see it end but understand that now all the guys have found love their stories are finished. I was happy to see that Andrew Grey has said that he plans to do a series involving so of the guys we met in this book. I can't wait to see what come next. I have always enjoyed the fact that several of his series all revolve around the same town so you are always getting hints about other things from different stories.
