If you're a numerical analyst or an engineer interested in the basic theory of the finite element method, this book belongs on your shelf. If you have no interest in finite elements but enjoy well written mathematical literature, this book still belongs on your shelf. Though some sections are dated, the contents of this book remain a solid foundation for understanding the behavior of finite element techniques in theory and in practice. Furthermore, while the contents are mathematically rigorous, the authors largely avoid the theorem/lemma/proof of most mathematical books, and instead describe the analysis in an almost conversational tone. Reading Strang and Fix reminds me of reading Lanczos: the book is dense with ideas which are both mathematically and practically interesting, but the presentation is so smooth that one can almost read it as one reads a novel. --David S. About the Author
Gilbert Strang is a Professor of Mathematics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an Honorary Fellow of Balliol College, of the University of Oxford, UK. His current research interests include linear algebra, wavelets and filter banks, applied mathematics, and engineering mathematics. He is the author or co-author of six textbooks and has published a monograph with George Fix titled An Analysis of the Finite Element Method. Professor Strang served as SIAM s president from 1999-2000, chaired the US National Committee on Mathematics from 2003 2004, and won the Neumann Medal of the US Association of Computational Mechanics in 2005. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Difficult but important historical book on numerical analysis for FEM

This is one of the earliest books on the mathematics of the Finite Element Method (FEM).
The book assumes that you already have knowledge of FEM. It is intended for mathematicians who need to know the numercial analysis details. I would not recommend it to non-mathematicians. You will not learn about implementation or use of FEM from this book.

Mark Prather is the founder and president of Mark 1 Mortgage and Real Estate since 1981. Since then, Prather has built his legacy by founding multiple companies that have served thousands of families through home purchasing, loan financing, investments and retirement investment savings. Easy Read - Life Changing Information

A quick and easy book to read. The author documents a journey from an abject life of poverty and seemingly endless roadblocks for attaining wealth - to a life filled with endless possibilities for riches in America. This is not an investment book but yet it is. Mark Prather weaves a story in and out of his own personal struggles and his life changing remedies. There is a "road map to wealth" within these pages and it is clearly laid out in terms that the everyday person can easily grasp. If you are looking for an inspirational book to read and are thinking that real estate just might be an answer to your prayers - pick this book up. I have heard Mark Prather speak at live events and I can honestly say that, in this book, he has captured the essence of his drive to help the "poor" get "rich". Read it.

About the Author
John W. Mullins John Mullins is Associate Professor of Management Practice at London Business School, where he heads the entrepreneurship group. He earned his MBA at the Stanford Graduate School of Business and, considerably later in life, his PhD in marketing from the University of Minnesota. An award-winning teacher, John brings to his teaching and research 20 years of executive experience in high-growth firms, including two ventures he founded, one of which he took public. Since becoming a business school professor in 1992, John has published more than 30 articles in a variety of outlets, including Harvard Business Review, the Journal of Product Innovation Management, and the Journal of Business Venturing. His research has won national and international awards from the Marketing Science Institute, the American Marketing Association, and the Richard D. Irwin Foundation. He is also co-author of Marketing Management: A Strategic Decision-Making Approach, 5th edition. His recent trade book, The New Business Road Test: What Entrepreneurs and Executives Should Do Before Writing a Business Plan, is the definitive work on the assessment and shaping of market opportunities.

Orville C. Walker, Jr. Orville C. Walker, Jr. is Professor Emeritus in the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management, where he served until recently as the James D. Watkins Professor of Marketing and Director of the PhD Program. He holds a Master’s degree in social psychology from the Ohio State University and a PhD in marketing from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Orville is the co-author of three books and has published more than 50 research articles in scholarly and business journals. He has won several awards for his research, including the O’Dell award from the Journal of Marketing Research, the Maynard award from the Journal of Marketing, and a lifetime achievement award from the Sales Management Interest Group of the American Marketing Association. Orville has been a consultant to a number of business firms and not-for-profit organisations, and he has taught in executive development programs around the world, including programs in Poland, Switzerland, Scotland and Hong Kong. The book is ok, but it is not compatible with windows 8 kinddle reader nor with cloud reader... so i can just read it on the small screen of my telephone or will have to buy another device... big dissapointment, should give complete information to customers on the limitations. The book is not cheap.
