About the Author
Trent C. Butler is a freelance author and editor. He served ten years on the faculty of the International Baptist Theological Seminary in Ruschilkon, Switzerland, and for twenty-two years as editor and editorial director for Holman Bible Publishers and LifeWay. He wrote the Word Biblical Commentary volume on Joshua, the Layman s Bible Book Commentary on Isaiah, the Holman Old Testament Commentaries on Isaiah and Hosea through Micah, and the Holman New Testament Commentary on Luke. He served on the editorial Board of the Holman Christian Standard Bible, and edited the Holman Bible Dictionary. Dr. Butler has a Ph.D. in biblical studies and linguistics from Vanderbilt University, has done further study at Heidelberg and Zurich, and has participated in the excavation of Beersheba.

Max Anders (Th.M. Dallas Theological Seminary, D.Min Western Seminary) is the author of over 20 books and the creator and general editor of the32 volume "Holman Bible Commentary". Dr. Anders has taught on the college and seminary level, is one of the original team members with Walk Thru the Bible Ministries, and has pastored for over 20 years. He is the founder and president of 7 Marks, Inc., a ministry specializing insupport for local churches (www.7marks.org).

Good commentary

Not to many commentary's focus on life application especially when we study the Old Testament. Holman's views won't fit every church's needs but he does an excellent job of focusing on scripture and then realting it back to our lives today. If you are leading a Bible study on Hosea I would not recommend you use this book alone. Use another commentary to fill in the gaps that this commentary will leave.

This is an exelent little book for someone who wants to build a log cabin. It will explane all the basics to the beginer who is considering building one of these to live or to have a little camp in the woods. It shows you just about all you need to know in order to build one-even if you have allmost no money,a point I myself find quite helpfull,so all you "back to the lander's " should have it on your book shelf. It is plane and to the point and more importantly it willshow you diferent ways to get things underway it was writen by a couple who did this themselves and know all the pit falls. I highly recomend it. I am planing to get another copy for my self (mines all worn out!).

Even as a child growing up outside Buffalo, New York, Amy Lansky sensed that the world was a bit more mysterious than it appeared on the surface. After many years working as a computer scientist, she now pursues her life passion—to uncover deeper truths hidden behind the veil of our consensual reality. Lansky’s first book, Impossible Cure: The Promise of Homeopathy (www.impossiblecure.com), explored an unconventional form of healing—homeopathy. It quickly became one of the best-selling introductory books on homeopathic medicine and is now used as a patient education book and textbook all over the world. In this, her second book, Lansky explores the mysterious realm of human consciousness. Active Consciousness: Awakening the Power Within (www.activeconsciousness.com) draws on her interest in paranormal phenomena, her expertise in alternative medicine, her meditation studies, and even her research experience in artificial intelligence. Lansky graduated from the University of Rochester in 1977 with degrees in mathematics and computer science, and she received her doctorate in computer science from Stanford University in 1983. A Book That Will Change Your Life

We live in a time where the fate of the earth itself seems to hang in the balance, and people struggle with widespread feelings of powerlessness. In the past I've wondered, are the many popular books on shaping reality just wish-fulfillment? Amy Lansky has written the most well-grounded, reality-based book on the subject that anyone could ask for, in a style that is a pleasure to read. She makes scientific and philosophical concepts enjoyable and easy for anyone to understand. With a clear, visionary yet scientific approach, she ties together: current theories in physics and mathematics on extra spatial dimensions and the nature of the universe; an overview of high-quality studies of paranormal phenomena; and an overview of common understanding about the nature of reality in various ancient wisdom traditions. She teases out the common links which could begin to illuminate the hidden aspects of our Universe, including the possible existence of a unified field, the "zero-point field" of physics, which she proposes could be the ground of universal consciousness. She then explores the nature of human beings, considering evidence that we ourselves may exist in more than three spatial dimensions, and how higher-dimensional aspects of ourselves could easily affect our 3-dimensional world in ways that seem inexplicable from our limited, 3-D perspective. For me it was a delight to have such weighty subjects explained so clearly, with plenty of helpful analogies.

Ms. Lansky then discusses how, when we rise above the chatter of our daily existence, we can learn to enter a state of deep, active consciousness, in which we are in fact able to shape reality through the loving intentions of our highest selves. And the icing on this wonderful cake: she lays out a program of simple but extremely well-focused meditation exercises through which any reader can train themselves to connect more fully with their higher consciousness, and truly change their own life and help to influence the world around them. I am behind this book 100%. I believe these methods can be used as a tool to help bring about the evolution that many in our world are currently striving for. I'm about to leave home on a 2-month study trip, and I plan to take the exercises with me. Since reading this book and beginning the practices I have already noticed an increase in synchronicities in my life, and an greater sense of being assisted in the life goals on which I'm focusing.

You are more powerful than you realize, harness it!

If you have an interest in both science and spirituality, this book is an excellent read. Amy Lansky writes in a very accessible way, making scientific and esoteric subjects understandable and more importantly, very enjoyable to read. I love Ken Wilbur, I think he's brilliant, but I'd rather have Amy Lansky explaining these concepts to me in her succinct and clear way. She references her work so you can dig deeper and look further if you want to.

I love how she uses examples and analogies to bring her point across to the reader. The exercises included in the book let you take it out of a solely intellectual pursuit and have an experiential encounter with the material.

Amy writes from a place of clarity, both from the heart and the intellect. Thank you Amy for bringing your ideas and experiences to humanity in such a fun and authentic way!

Amy Lansky's ground breaking book, Active Consciousness is a must read for anyone interested in seeing our world through the exciting lens of a leading scientist and spiritual thinker. As a former NASA scientist and metaphysical scholar, she writes with precision and passion, telling stories that are real, soulful and extraordinary. The author is at heart a consciousness seeker, explorer and activist. Drawing from Lansky's luminous intelligence and keen imagination, she gives methods and practices for obtaining higher states of knowing. Most importantly this book presents a clear imperative to become an active participant for our own and collective well-being.

What is so compelling about Active Consciousness is that it is written with the rigor of a scientific thinker with the warmth and craft of a good storyteller. The author's intimate experiences are woven throughout the book, giving us a glimpse into the intriguing road she has traveled, which often crosses the line between the scientific and the esoteric. Wonderfully complex and controversial ideas are presented with artful elegance and simplicity.

The book also offers many cogent diagrams and details that help the reader make the leap from what is known in our physical universe to what is unseen and clearly present all around us. I highly recommend this book.

It's about time

Isn't God a white-haired, able-bodied male? As so many myths have been exploded since liberation theology entered our consciousness, perhaps handicapism is the final frontier (probably not.) In 1980 I became temporarily handicapped due to a car accident and it opened my eyes and spirit to disability. In the last few years I have become handicapped in ways sometimes invisible, but increasingly more visible. (Nancy Eiesland spends some time discussing the vocabulary of this "condition." I'm using words I'm comfortable with; just as she used the words she's comfortable. Like everything else there is no unanimity of style.

The book is described as a master's thesis or having been derived from her master's thesis. It shows. That's both good and bad news. It exercised my brain cells - always a good thing even for folks who aren't handicapped. In addition to reach an audience including church leaders, she needed to give us the theological justification for what she is proposing. Agree with her theology or not, you have to take seriously adding handicapism under the umbrella of liberation theology. She couldn't have fulfilled this purpose without writing it from an academic point of view. She used the experience of two other authors who happen to be handicapped to increase the variety of handicap experiences. I read Nancy Mairs', Waist High to the World several years ago and enjoyed it enormously, but Nancy Eiesland is coming at handicapism not only from the point of view of lived experience, but also asking, "What does it mean to me as a person of faith to be handicapped? Can I be a disciple with a broken body? How should church leaders use the gifts of our brothers and sisters to enrich and challenge our churchs/synagogues/ mosques?"

I, or we as a people are, inately nosy and I could have gotten to her point and the issues she raised sooner if she had described her disability near the beginning of the book just so I could put her story in context. It doesn't make any difference to her work or point of view, but... I have only read the beginning of the book so far and all I know about her is that she uses a wheelchair and has braces. It sounds as though this situation has been ungoing since childhood.

Eiesland has barely opened the door on theological reflection on handicapism. I look forward to the next authors who will take us further.

A fresh perspective from a side often ignored

As a theology student and as a person with a chronic illness that occasionally disables me from day-to-day activities I found this book to be just what I had been searching for from my theology books for years. The myth of disability as an affliction for sin is dispelled! The myth that someone with a disability is dispelled! The book reminds all that in Christian theology we are all made in imago dei even those of us with physical and medical disabilities. I highly recommend this book for all theology students as well as those who are hurting in their relationship with God due to illness.

A Great Read

This is one of the best books on theology and the disabled that I have ever read. As a student preparing for the ordained ministry I would recommend this book to all seminarians and pastors. It is time that the church rethink it's response to the disabled. Nancy Eisland does this wonderfully when she reminds us of the wounds of Christ.
